Could the Cowboys Trade for Jalen Ramsey? And Would He Even Want It?
When Cowboys Nation hears the name Jalen Ramsey, the immediate reaction might be: Let’s get him!
The Cowboys secondary could use a lockdown corner like Ramsey. He’s physical, smart, and still one of the game’s most versatile defenders, but there’s one just one thing to consider first.
He might still be mad at the Cowboys front office.
Most players dream of wearing the star. But with Jalen Ramsey, things are...complicated.
Back in 2016, the Cowboys had a chance to draft him. Instead, they took Ezekiel Elliott. And Ramsey? He didn’t forget. In a now-infamous quote to Mina Kimes in 2018, he made it clear how he felt:
“I will never play for [the Cowboys]... Unless the Joneses leave.”
We know that ain't happening anytime soon (unless the off field mess gets to be too much for NDAs to resolve).
By 2022, on The Pivot Podcast, Ramsey gave the full story. According to him, Dallas told him directly they would draft him if he was still on the board at No. 4. Then draft day came — and those words didn’t mean much.
“All the cameras were on me and Zeke... and then in an instant, the 10 cameras that were at my table all [zoomed] over to Zeke’s table.”
He even shared how emotional it was for his family — and how deeply disappointed he felt that day.
In Jerry speak, Ramsey felt lower than a crippled cricket's ass.
Would He Even Say Yes Now?
If he was still fired up in 2022, six years after the draft, you have to wonder where his head is in 2025. Could time have healed the wound? Or would this still be a non-starter unless something changes?
These are the kinds of moments Jerry Jones is built for. He’s repaired relationships with legends. He’s signed lightning rods before. He knows how to work a room.
If he can repair this relationship and bring Ramsey aboard, Ramsey would be joined by thousands, possibly millions of Cowboys fans, rekindling their passion and belief in America's team.
